BESKELETAT

Assembled during the pandemic, Beskeletat is a group of artists from Cairo who gather every Friday morning to cycle around central Cairo. Despite the challenges of visiting certain neighborhoods, Beskeletat has found that their collective presence allows them to go anywhere. Though not knowing what it is, they still continue using it.

CAIRO BANDITS

On a usual evening in the expanding city of Cairo, Mark is driving for an extended period of time. As he navigates through the streets, the scenery shifts abruptly between the familiar old city and the rapidly developing new districts. As night falls, the city’s hustle and bustle gives way to an eerie calm, signaling the anticipated presence of bandits.

PLUCKED

Walking down the streets of Cairo, it’s impossible to stop and look around without feeling the weight of judgmental gazes. This project seeks to immerse viewers in this familiar, yet often uncomfortable, street dynamic without being judged by it. This project offers viewers a unique opportunity to explore and reflect on this pervasive aspect of Cairo’s streets, free from the social pressures.

LISTENING & HEARING: THE ART OF REPETITION

This short soundscape was recorded in Boulaq Abou El Ela, a neighborhood in Cairo, during a bike ride on a Friday morning. While moving through the area, a repeating sound became apparent. The voices of Muslim sheikhs speaking through televisions, radios, and loudspeakers, at every second windows along the street. This repetition raised in me the question “:is anyone actuoally listeneing?.
